Welcome to the second edition of SPIE's Solutions for the Energy Transition. Since 2021’s inaugural issue, a lot has happened. In February 2022, the EU Taxonomy for sustainable activities passed the European Parliament. The year’s complex geopolitical context as well as many severe natural disasters rendered the importance and urgency of the European green energy transition more salient than ever before.

In this context, SPIE is playing a key role in European and global projects which are helping to break society’s dependence on fossil fuels. With our broad range of activities across the green energy value chain, we are among those facilitating, implementing, and accelerating the energy transition.

This year’s Solutions for the Energy Transition book offers specific examples of where and how we get it done. These examples demonstrate our presence at each point in the low carbon energy value chain.
